My car ran hot and turned off. It wouldn't restart and I was told that I needed to replace the water pump. So I replaced it, but the car still will not start up. I am not a mechanic but I can fix things once I know what the problem is. Any idea why it won't restart?

I hope you found your problem by now.

Are you saying the vehicle won't crank or it cranks good but won't start? If the vehicle cranks good but won't start, can you check for codes, put a scanner on it?

If not, you can do some basic tests. Have a helper crank the engine while you check for spark at the plugs. If you have good spark everywhere, check the fuel system.

If your saying the engine won't even turn over, you might get on the end of the crank, see if you can turn it over by hand, if you can't, it sounds like something is froze-up.
