Noises problem
1994 Buick Century 4 cyl Automatic 109000 miles

I recently purchased a '94 Buick Century station wagon with a rebuilt transmission. The car has been driving beautifully (motor purrs, idle is smooth, gears shift effortlessly). Suddenly, though, I started hearing a noise (kind of a high-pitched whizzing sound) whenever I turned the wheel. This morning the sound was much louder, and now I'm hearing the same sound whenever I accelerate. (It may be the sound continues at a maintained speed, but I can't hear it.)

Can anyone guess what might be causing this noise, and is it serious?

Check the powersteering fluid level.

Let me know what you find.

Hi Jacob and Nickolas,
The whizzy sound, which was really loud, is now barely audible, and I can't imagine what happened. As a rule, problems don't fix themselves, but without a symptom, my mechanic couldn't pinpoint a potential problem. He said "not to worry, " the power steering is not an issue at this point, though he agreed there was a slight "whizzy" sound when turning the wheel in either direction. (BTW, the PS fluid was fine.) I guess it's a waiting game at this point.

Thanks for your interest!

Thanks for getting back to me. It could have been from the PS pump, but if he can't tell, you are right, it becomes a guessing and waiting game. It may never do it again.

Regardless, if you find something, let me know so we can have it posted here. It may help someone in the future.

Good luck, let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using 2carpros. Com.
