The mechanic at Big O said if one has a computer in their car like mine that by disconnecting the positive or negative wire on the battery while running it will blow out the diode in the alternator. Is this true?

Hi:
I never heard of that. A diode is designed to allow power go in one direction. Disconnecting the battery shouldn't change that.
