My car has been making a bubbling noise when I stop for a while now. Tonight while driving there was a loud bang and a ton of smoke or gas filled up the cabin pouring in through the vents. The temp gauge raised to hot red yet motor and radiator were still only warm. There was no fluid on the ground. Drove car 5 minutes further after stopping to let the smoke out and the car drove ok, still had all power no smoke blowing from the engine. I have noticed my muffler starting to get noisey recently also.
Hoping for some idea of what the problem could be.

May be steam, check the coolant level and if very low, top up and pressure test for external leaks, do this with the heater on, as the heater core may be faulty, start here.
