Broken ignition

My son recently bought a 96 camero got a great deal because prior owner lost key and broke ignition, we have a steering column with the key in it, will this fix the security problem that engaged when ignition was broke? Or will I need to take to shop?

Your best bet is to get an ignition lock and key from the dealer which will come preprogrammed and install it into the new column. Here is how to change it out and install the column. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
