My brakes were grinding so I took it to a mechanic, and they said that they need to replace the front brake pads and hardware kit and remove and clean and lubricate caliper pins on both sides and gave me a quote of $600. Would that be an average price?

That sounds a little steep, I would call around. Did you want to do the job yourself? This is how and you can get the parts from Amazon for about $160 for front and rear brake pads and rotors with fluid and brake cleaner and hardware kit.

Here is a video of the job being done on a similar car, the process is the same:

Make sure to go over this guide as well before you begin.

Make sure to do it one side at a time and pump the brakes and have a good brake pedal before you drive it. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
