The dash brake light is on, and has been for the past 5,000 miles. At 172,000 miles, I performed a rear brake overhaul, and at approximately 163,000 miles, a shop down the road performed a front brake overhaul. The rear axle had a brake fluid flush recently, but the front axle never had a brake fluid flush. I have checked the master cylinder on a regular basis, and I am not losing any fluid, nor are there any leaks around the bleeder valves on each caliper. Do you have any suggestions on what to do next? Thanks!

Are you referring to the wire below the steering wheel? If so, that switch was replaced about 15,000 miles ago.

I am referring to the switch to tell you that you left the brake on. Also just because something was replaced does not mean it cannot be bad. I run into bad parts brand new out of the box or sometimes they do not last that long. Also the brake fluid is for sure full?the level sensors in the master cylinder does go bad sometimes on those as well.

I have not yet checked the emergency brake switch.

Prior to this, the dash light went on and off. But I did notice the main cause of it staying on was frequent braking (as in traffic jams).

Thanks, would suspect the switch on the master cylinder. Unplug the connector for fluid level sensor and jump the two terminals together on the connector that plugs into the master cylinder did the light go off?
