Replacement brakes are making the same grinding noise as the ones I replaced?

Hello,

I just changed my brakes and the problem with the front driver side was the pads were essentially sticking. Sounded like a grinding sound. So, I changed them tonight and I’m almost getting the same sound. Not sure if it’s the coating coming off or if something else is wrong. We changed the caliper and bracket on the front driver side as well. I’m kind of baffled.

Hi,

I wasn't able to tell in the video. However, here is what I need you to do: Drive the vehicle a few miles. When you stop and park, see if there is excessive heat coming from either of the front wheels that would indicate a possible brake sticking. If there really isn't excessive heat, inspect the rotor dust shield behind the rotor. See if it is bent or rusted and touching the brake rotor.

If nothing appears to be touching, pay attention to see if applying the brakes changes the sound. Also, see if there is a change in the sound when making turns.

Let me know what you find.

So, I know there was heat coming off, but I attribute that to the coating coming off. The dust shield is rusty, but just surface rust. I never checked if the rotor was touching the dust shield though. I’ll check the sound when applying the brakes.

What I am thinking it could be is a collapsed brake hose.

A collapsed brake hose can prevent the caliper from releasing. Here is what to do. Lift the affected wheel off the ground. Have a helper apply the brakes and when released, see if the wheel turns easily. If it is locked, open the bleeder on the caliper to see if it releases. If it does, there is a good chance the hose is the issue.
