Brake rotor differences?

My truck listed above has the rotor and hub built in together on the front, which requires a special one-time use spindle nut that has to be torqued down to 295 ft/Ibs. On my previous 2004 F-150 2wd truck the front rotor and hub were separate and could be changed as such.

My question is, what is the reason for the change? Why are there two different designs on the same 2wd drive truck but different years? It just seems like it makes it more of a hassle to work on and more costly.

That is a very good question. If I had to guess, I would suspect it is related to manufacturing the vehicle. Chances are they found a cheaper or faster way to put it together on the assembly line.

I remember when all rear-wheel drive vehicles had an inner and outer wheel bearing and two seals. The torque was certainly not 295 ft/lbs.
