Brake pedal soft and kick down not operating

Had a mechanic (NRMA) look at vehicle and was told because the kick down is not working it could be effecting the brakes performance? I find this hard to believe however I am not a mechanic and would like your comments on the subject.

Good morning,

No, it will not. The brake system is independent from the transmission system.

As far as the soft pedal, check the fluid level. Low fluid level will cause this.

Beyond that, it could be a bad master cylinder. I posted some guides below for you to view for this issue.
