Good morning. Whenever time I push/mash the brake pedal on the car, it comes up very slowly. Do you know what is cause of that? Thank you in advance.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

It could be one of two things. A binding pedal or a bad brake booster. Here is a simple test to determine the problem:

PINPOINT TEST K: SLOW OR INCOMPLETE BRAKE PEDAL RETURN
K: SLOW OR INCOMPLETE BRAKE PEDAL RETURN

K1: CHECK FOR BRAKE PEDAL RETURN
1. Run the engine at fast idle while making several brake applications.
2. Pull the brake pedal rearward with approximately 44.5 N (1 lb.) Force.
3. Release the brake pedal and measure the distance to the toe board.
4. Make a hard brake application.
5. Release the brake pedal and measure the brake pedal to toe board distance. The brake pedal should return to its original position.
Does the brake pedal return to its original position?
-> Yes
Vehicle is OK.
-> No
Go to [K2]

K2: CHECK FOR BRAKE PEDAL BINDING
1. Check the brake pedal to make sure it is operating freely.
Is the brake pedal operating freely?
-> Yes
INSTALL a new brake booster. TEST the system for normal operation.
-> No
REPAIR or INSTALL new brake pedal. TEST the system for normal operation.

If you determine the brake booster is bad, here are the directions for replacement. The attached pictures correlate with these directions,

4. NOTE: The non-return valve and vacuum pipe assembly should be removed with the brake booster.

Remove the brake booster retaining nut.

Installation

See Picture 4

1. NOTE: When renewing the brake booster, the non-return valve and vacuum pipe assembly should be installed prior to the brake booster installation.

NOTE: Replace the brake booster/pedal box gasket.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Tighten to 25 Nm.
