can't get the push rod out of the old cylinder and did not get a new one with the new master cylinder.

Good afternoon,
The push rod is held in by a snap ring.
What you need to do is remove the boot from the back, then release the snap ring holding in the piston. Remove the piston with the rod.
You will have to cut the piston at the rod connection to release it and install on the new one.
