When the power assist comes back intermittently, the van will almost throw itself into the oncoming lane. How do I find out if my power steering pump is bad and needing replaced?

Hi,

It sounds like you have a hydro-boost system. If you lose both steering assist and brake assist, first, make sure the power steering pump belt is tight and in good condition. If it is and the fluid is clean and full, my first suspect is the pump itself is failing.

I attached directions below for testing the PS system. We need to determine if the pump is producing enough pressure for the system.

Take a look at the directions below and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Take care,

joe
