Hello,

This could be a problem with the ground. The ground for your vehicle's stereo is M57 and it is located behind the right side of the dashboard. Check this ground out and make sure it's dry, clean, free of corrosion, and making good metal to metal contact. I have included ground distribution diagram as well as connector end views for your stereo in the diagrams down below. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

My radio comes on and the sound does not. The volume button stays idle and doesn't go up/down. It just sits there. Days later I crank up my car and the radio mysteriously comes on. I turn the car back off and then on again and no more sound.

Just to be clear, when you turn the volume knob the scale does not change? It just stays on the same number? If that is the case then the radio is the issue.

If the volume scale goes up and down, but no volume then I suspect the amp is the issue.

The way to confirm this is to check power on the amp signal from the radio to the amp. I attached the wiring diagram for this. Let's check power and go from there but it does sounds like the radio is the issue.

Just another thought, did you have the battery replaced by dealership? Factory batteries are made a last for the entire warranty period. So, that's something to take in consideration as well. I hope this helps and I'll be watching this post for your reply.

The other option could be that the radio control switch in the steering wheel si defective or the wiring though the column. Dealer is the best option.

Thanks for your diagnostic. I took it to the dealer. They said a switch went out and I'll have to change out the whole radio unit, all fixed

No fuses for speakers. Swap the left and right ones to see if the speaker or radio / amp has the problem.

I replaced the speaker because I thought it popped. But it's just that side. The tweeter isn't working either.

Sounds like a problem in the radio but first check the wires between the driver's door hinges. If one broke, there won't be any sound from the door speaker(s) but the dash speakers will still work.

You have one of three problem, the radio, speakers (unlikely) or the speaker connection to the radio.

What you need to do is remove the radio to make sure all connections are plugged in. If they are, I recommend taking the radio to a stereo shop that can check bench test it. Most shops have speakers, a power supply, and can tell you if the radio is bad in under 5 minutes. Also, most don't charge to do it.

In this case, if all connections are attached and tight, I feel the amp in the stereo has gone bad and is no longer supplying a signal to the speakers.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

After trying to replace the power antenna kit im my car (and failing) the stereo and clock in the car no longer turn on when the car is started. I tried multiple different wiring connections when trying to install the power antenna. I thought that it might be a blown fuse but i checked all the fuses that i thought it might be and none were blown. Currently there is no power antenna in the car and the stereo and clock still do not turn on.

Hi GregAl/ Welcome to the forum. It sounds like a fuse is out here is a guide to help you test them for power and the fuse locations below.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

I dont know if this matters but the current head unit for the stereo is an alpine that i installed a couple of years back. Another thing of interest that i just noticed today is that my remote control keys ( that unlock or lock the car / trunk release) no longer work. Maybe that gives another hint to where the problem is.

Yup. I think you're going to find a blown fuse for the radio's memory circuit. It will be tied into a circuit that is always live such as your remote keyless entry system. Dome lights and horn are other common circuits. Look for two fuse boxes, one under the hood and one inside the car.

Thank you I finally found the fuse. It was the top right fuse (7.5 amps) in the fuse box on the inside of the car by the drivers seat.

A follow up question is about correctly installing the power antenna. I think i did this incorrectly initially which caused me to blow the fuse. There are 3 wires that come from the car that need to be connected: a black one, a pink one, and a black one with a red strip. I know that one goes to the battery, one goes to the radio and i believe one is a sort of ground. If I knew which one is which I could install the antenna. So if you could offer any insight into this that would be great.

If this is an original equipment power antenna, the electrical connector should match what's on the car. If you're adding an aftermarket antenna, there should be instructions with it that list the wire functions. There's usually a relay involved, but if your antenna only has three wires, it might be built into it.

You can try running the antenna directly off the battery with some fused jumper wires to see what works. This is just an educated guess, but my first thought would be black is for ground, black / red is for positive, and the pink wire on positive will make the mast go up and removing the pink will make it go down. If that works, your radio will have a switched wire that becomes live when the radio and the ignition switch are both turned on. That would connect to the pink wire for the control circuit. Many aftermarket radios use a blue wire for switched power for antennas and amplifiers. They are usually labeled too.

Did the new fuse blow? If all the fuses are good in the car and under the hood, pull the radio out and check for voltage on two pins in the connector. One should have 12 volts all the time and one should have 12 volts only when the ignition switch is turned on.

Hi Misty

Bad news I'm sorry , the bose units make a good sound but unfortunatly have a few issues with poor soldering, so chances are your head unit is u/s

Also check as some bose systems have speakers so if you wish to retain your speakers and these amps you'll need a replacement head unit that has 4 lo level outputs to drive these amps
