I have an aftermarket head unit and the original Bose amp. All worked fine for years until the Bose amp quit. I have the replacement OEM part, but I am told for the need amp to work programming will be needed. My GM/Cadillac/former Hummer dealer could not do it. How do I get this done?

Hi,

I don't have the specific procedure, but you will need to find a shop that has a Tech 2 scanner that can program.

I tried really hard to get the procedures for you, but the manuals just walked me in circles. If you look at pic 1, that is where I started. I followed it to pic 2 which led me to pics 3 and 4 which are general directions for programming a module.

Are there any shops near you that may have a tech 2 scanner?

Let me know.

Joe

Thanks, I am trying to find someone with the Tech 2 tool in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Area but I am not having much luck. For what dealers want to charge me I just may buy a clone Tech 2 and have it for future use.

Hi,

Sometimes you are further ahead doing that. If you do a lot of your own work, it would be nice to have.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Here is a place that sells new ones. I imagine they are somewhat expensive.

https://oemtools.com/products/general-motors/

Other than that, I would check eBay, google search tech 2, and so on.

I wish I had a better answer for you.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

I have acquired a tech 2 scanner. Besides the OBD connector mounted in the lower dash panel there are two other similar connections that are hanging free up and under the lower dash (see picture). Do you know what the other connectors are for?

Hi,

Can you tell me the wire colors going to them and if any of the pins have power?

I was anticipating that when you see the previous picture of these other two connectors (not mounted to the dash) that they are/were commonly known connectors. This being said, I have not attempted to make any discovery on either of the two connectors (both are unmounted, one is connector is red and the other connector is black).
In the pictures sent here the red connector has just a smaller clump of shrink-wrap wire (wire is small and count is unknow). The black loose connector has 16 wires on it. No discovery has been done on either connector for wire purpose. See pic for wire colors. I can attempt to do individual wire discovery if necessary.

I went through every schematic I could find on connectors for this vehicle and nothing other than the DLC, has 16 pins. Have you owned the vehicle since it was new? I ask because the only thing I can think of is if someone had a breathalyzer installed. If you follow the wiring back, do you see any aftermarket connectors?

I have not owned it since it was new. There was one other owner before me. Without taking the dash apart this looks like a stock harness. I do, however, remember finding a fleet management type of GPS tracking unit that I removed the dongle and left the rest. I guess I will have to remove the lower dash to investigate further.

Hi,

I feel it would help identify their purposes. I went through every connector and schematic, and I can't find any 16-pin connector other than the DLC.

Let me know.

Sure, it is under the center console between the front seats. Check out the images (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Btw Ken do you know what's involved in getting to the amp under the console? I know the console itself has to come up and presumably the shifter, etc. But do you know if this can all be done without removing the seat(s)?
Thank you.

I think the seats can be moved all the way forward to remove the side mounting screws of the console housing plastic covers. Check out the instructions below to see what I am talking about. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
