2002 BMW Z3 "Service Engine Soon" light

Hi, guys,

I have a 2002 BMW Z3 2.5 roadster. The "Service Engine Soon" light just came on over the weekend, out of the blue. The car has about 85K miles on it, and I maintain it according to the manufacturer's schedule. It seems to be driving just great -- I haven't noticed any change in performance. I just had an oil change a couple of weeks ago.

Given all of this, what could this mean? How urgent is it that I get it looked at?

It is possible the issue is something as simple as a loose gas cap or something in the evaporative control system. Have the fault that has the light commanded on read out and let me know what you find.
