Engine Performance problem
1998 BMW Z3 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Automatic 2.8 Z3 - when trying to pull away at and above 50 -60 miles an hour there is no acceleration.... no pull when you put your foot down. In the lower gears the car pulls away fine. After having a sensor replaced (as we were told this was the problem) we have now been told that the CAT needs changing as it is becoming blocked, would this cause this problem with the cars performance??

Hi there, the inside of a cat converter is like a very fine honeycomb, it allows great flow and afford a huge surface area for it to do its work, but if it fails and collapses, it will severely restrict the flow of exhaust gasses, this will create an excessive back pressure with will in effect hinder the process of air fuel induction, this back pressure is just like a brake on the engine performance, if you suspect a faulty converter, have it check ASAP.
