2005 BMW X5 oil pressure light

My oil pressure light come on after my car warms up and than go, s out for a minute what could be the problem

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, if normal replace the oil pressure switch. If abnormal could mean oil pump and engine bearing.

First thank you for your reply but now I hear a thump sound while the engine is running, could it be that I am having major problem my engine

Thumping noise could mean rod and main bearings
