2004 BMW X5 Cost to replace or rebuild the engine

The car stopped, turns out the engine seized due to "no oil" The mechanic put in 7 quarts and tried to manually restart the engine but alas it is ruined. How could this happen to someone who meticulously cares for the car and what cost am I looking at to either rebuild the engine or replace it? Of note no leaks were identified. Thank you.

Replacement is going to be less expensive. I would get a salvage yard motor, call Autobahn dismantlers at (619)444-2290
