Is it possible to "crack" your transfer case? Thus, causing a popping noise on acceleration and making the car completely stop if it completely brakes. If so, how could it happen?

I would think it is possible. This might call for a personal reconoiter under the car to see if it is broken, or tow it to an inspection facility and have it done.
