2003 BMW X5 compressor does not engage

even when i jump the compressor direct from the battery the compressor doesn't engage.. Help!!!

You have tried applying battery voltage directly with no clutch engagement, then I would reckon the clutch is inoperative and may require replacement. BMW likes to sell the whole unit and not just the clutch, a salvage yard can get the clutch/compressor for less than the 1000 or so bucks a new one costs, try Autobahn BMW dismantling @ (619)444-2290 John or Sean will get you up to speed.
