After changing the vehicle battery, the central locking system ceased to function properly. None of the issues described below were present before I changed the battery:

I've checked and switched appropriate fuses, to no avail

The key fobs will lock/unlock the liftgate, but not the doors.

Interior light does not come on when door is opened

Central locking button on console does not work

Using the key in the driver door lock cylinder locks/unlocks all four doors and sets/cancels the alarm properly

It sounds like the alarm module needs a hard reboot here is a guide to help you see how to do it.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-reset-a-security-system

Remove the negative battery cable and hold it to the positive for 1 minute this will discharge the capacitors. Please let us know what happens.

i have a bmw x5 and the keys will not opperate the locking/unlocking of the doors, i have had the keys checked and they are sending signals but nothing works, i have been told it maybe the central locking module as all the fuses are ok, the button in side the car for locking all the doors isnt working either and this i have be told means the c-l-module is faulty, were in the car is this ? and is it true that this could be the problem ??

A scan with the proprietary BMW software will tell the story. It may be a module or perhaps a coding issue. The general module is in the passenger footwell area.

I have a problem with the driver's door lock, when I lock it with the remote control, all doors lock except for the driver's one, I have to do it manualy by the key if I wanted to lock that door, do you think the problem is the relay?, can it be fixed? or must be replaced?.
Thank you

Hello all,
just wondered if any one out there has had a full working central locking system , only to find when they get out of the car you press the lock button on the key fob and nothing happens, ive tried all 3 buttons with no joy, have pressed the lock button on the centre console, at first nothing happened but after starting and stopping the engine the inside button works but still no remote operation have tried the spare key as well but no joy, hope someone can help,
cheers Paul.

Before you attempt to repair this issue, an `05 X5 with less than 50k miles is still covered by the factory warranty, let BMW repair it. If it is just the keys requiring reinitialization, then the warranty umbrella should be used to determine the root cause.

I changed the vehicle's battery, and now the remote keyless does not unlock the doors.

The keyless will release the rear hatch, indicating the keyless battery still works.

The central locking system responds to the key when used in the door lock cylinder, and unlocks all the doors, indicating the central locking system functions.

The three fuses identified on the fuse panel in the glove box are all good.

Is there some reset procedure I need to do to reacquaint the central locking system with the remote keyfob?

This is going to require re-initializing all the keys that you use for this vehicle. Gather all the keys and go to the vehicle. Open the drivers door, get in and close the door. Select a key and insert it into the ignition, turn the ignition on but do not start the car, then turn off the ignition, remove the key and then push and hold the un-lock button, and while holding the un-lock button press the lock button three times, and then release the buttons, at that time all the door locks should lock and then unlock via the central locking. repeat this same process with the remaining key(s) and when you are complete, opening the doors or starting the car will take it out of initialization mode. This will initialize the keys in order that they are coded to the car if car/key memory has been programmed.

Computer problem
2005 BMW X5 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

when i pull away my central locking system locks the doors then immediatly unlocks them. instead of the usuall locking procedure of staying locked until i unlock the doors when stationary. the manual runs on about key fob settings and of course go to bmw to repair, is ther a way to repair this myself?

When you make a lock request with the key fob, does it do the same thing? It is possible there is a faulty lock assembly, either at the rear hatch or in one of the doors. The central locking system can be scanned for faults by the scanning software at the dealer and at some independent repair shops, it is going to be difficult to complete this repair without these data.
