2002 BMW X5 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My battery recently failed... no crank, no lights, etc. Had battery replaced, and am now being told by dealer that ABS damaged during aftermarket battery installation. Does anyone know if this is common ?

Yes, unfortunately it is true. Large voltage excursions can and do wreak havoc on (overly) sensitive electronic systems.
