2001 BMW X5 blue smoke

When ever I start the car, slow down then take off again there is quite a bad puff of blue smoke coming from the exhaust. Also as I am driving there is a continual flow of blue smoke but not so bad.

Probably needs a PCV plate, is the ses light on?
