clanging sound

i have e46, when i get i of the car i can hear a clanging sound. its only when i get out. is it the suspension or exhaust?

without actually hearing the noise you describe it is difficult to diagnose.a hot exhaust may be the cause as they do sometimes make noises on cool down.if so it is normal operation
