My car is 12 years old and it seems to warm up as normal.
However after about 10 miles and travelling downhill the temperature gauge drops by some way but returns to normal when pulling on a flat road
I have checked th coolant level which is normal, but the top hose is cool to touch and the bottom hose hot as would be expected on a 50 mile run.
I would welcome your thoughts
Many thanks

John, your description sounds as if the thermostat is broken and will require replacement.
