1998 BMW 740 temp gauge pegged

1998 BMW 740 V8 Automatic 168000 miles

My car heater coil leaked and my front and back passenger floor got soaked, now thats fixed. Now my check engine light is on and my temp. gauge is going up and down from the middle to the hot side but my car is cold??

The wiring from the temperature sender may be damaged, it is not an uncommon issue. There may also be a blown fuse in the E-box injection fuse block that takes power out to the temperature sender.
