What are the most common issues associated with this particular alarm. I just turned over 150000 miles and this is when the alarm sensor came on "Transmission Program Failure".

What are some of the more unique problems associated with this alarm?

Can I use an OBD II to check this problem?

The issue can be determined with proprietary BMW software from the dealer, I don't think the generic scanners can read the faults in the electronic transmission control. This fault can sometimes be corrected with software.

If I purchase this software from BMW, can it be loaded onto the OBD II Scanner?

BMW does not sell the software.
