1994 BMW 740 acceleration/ check engine

my 94 MW 740il ran great... my girlfriend ran it out of gas a few times... now the check engine light is on and it wont accelerate for anything. and if it does, it;s sputtering... i'm hoping it's only the fuel filters but do you think it could be the fuel pump?

Fuel pump is toast, send bill for pump to girl friend, that is all. ♥
