I would like to know if there is a tell tail way to determine which 1 or both are faulty.

The brake system has what is commonly referred to as a brake "bomb" and it will require replacement. The part number is 34-33-1-162-054 and can be obtained online at RealOEM.com There is a picture of it there as well.
