2001 BMW 530i Trans. Failsafe Prog

Hello, When I try to pick up in my BMW the car makes a noise and this light comes up in the dash "Trans. Failsafe Prog" after that the car seems to get stuck in 3rd gear. It happens right after I pick up, my speed would be around 6 m/h. I tried switching the car off and back on but the same thing happens again each time. Any idea what could be causing this?

This could be a software issue, in other words, it may be in need of an upgrade in the software. Have you been to your friendly neighborhood BMW repair facility?
