I'd like to know how to check coolant level and should I add only antifreeze or add water also? I have e39 528i 1998. Should I add coolant in expansion reservoir, on the left side of radiator? There is line somewhere in the middle and it says cold (kalt-probably German). Does that mean that coolant should be somewhere near that line when engine is cold? Last time I checked it coolant was quite bellow cold line, but I could still see it, it was not dry.

I would at a little water to it, be sure to get BMW Coolent if you add more than a little or just get the whole system flushed which is what you should probably do. (if it hasnt been done in a year)
