I just want to know how to properly test the alternator for 2003 BMW 525i?

Do you have a DVM? (Digital multi-meter) A Fluke 87 or better should do. Measure the battery voltage at idle, then measure the A/C ripple voltage. At idle the battery voltage should read 13.6 with no loads. Ripple less than 110mv. Let me know.
