Could you please be more specific in order to get the best advice possible. What type of smell is it? Oil, coolant, grease? Is there any smoke along with the smell?

2001 BMW 335 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 54000 miles

recently purchast it and smell around engine

thanks for your repley! i think its more like oil or grease but there is no smoke and the engine is really hot it self (no worning or lite lights). i dont know if that is normal with BMWs. However, it looks and runs great. i dont have any complains. iit is very cleane and kept in good condition. i have inspection papers that shows, what was done and everything is apporved and checked.

2001 model year for BMW did not have a 335 in the model line-up. Perhaps a 325?
