Engine Mechanical problem
2001 BMW 330 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 173000 miles

I have a 2001 330I and just recently cracked the head. The mechanic I took it to said that it would be best to replace the engine. I can not afford that right now. What reasons would he have for not replacing the head only. Unfortunatly I am not that savy with car mechanics.
Thanks

Because the block is aluminum, and when the cylinder head is bolted on, the torque required can and often does pull the threads out of the block. I have a source for an engine if you require.
