The radiator on my 98 328i sedan exploded. The drivers side plastic tank blow a chunk off! I have never seen that before. There is no radiator cap on this car to vent pressure. It must vent pressure somewhere else in the system but I don’t know exactly where. The reserve tank cap has no visible spring. Any know the story on this?

The radiator cap on the reserve tank is vented. Go ahead and replaced it and the radiator. After installation of the radiator run the engine for a long period of time without the cap and watch if the water/coolant bubbles out of the plastic bottle. If it gushes out like a volcano then you still might have a problem.
