Does it make sense to change the oil to a bmw 2008 3 series every 15,000 miles? If so why? Thanks in advance for your answer.

It doesnt make sense to me. But if its clean and he viscosity doesnt break down, I dont see a problem. But for the life of me cant figure out how they can go so long between oil changes.

I agree with Tim, however, after speaking with the engineers that work in the petroleum industry about the oil service interval of 15k miles, their story is that engines are built better, filters and oil are better able to carry away contaminates and lubricate for the longer periods that manufacturers are calling for. Now, having said that, I find it interesting that these longer periods of service coincide with what the car makers are paying for to make it attractive for you to buy a BMW. In other words, if you buy a new BMW, 30% of that goes for warranty, repairs and maintenence that most brands make you pay extra for. If the car makers have to pay for it, you can bet it's not coming out of their pocket.
