1997 BMW 328 cant get out of park

The car starts just will not come out of park I also notice the brake lights aren't working do you think the switch for the trans unlock and the brake light switch are one in the same and is causing this problem

Check the brake switch could be it preventing it from coming out of park due to the shift interlock system control solenoid not engaging
