1996 BMW 328 ratiator cooling fan

why does the ratiator fan keep running when the car is off? it killed the battery 8 hours later.

The auxiliary fan is controlled by a final stage unit that is basically a potted semi-conductor that controls the fan speed and it is possible that unit is shorted and will require replacement. I think the aux fan and the final stage are sold as a unit, but I am not sure as I am not on my home computer and do not hace access to my data base.
