1996 BMW 328 Not down shifting smoothly from stopping to ac

Transmission problem
1996 BMW 328 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Does the transmission filter have to be changed on my BMW? I checked my owners manual & it does not mention anything about the transmission other than stating that it is sealed & fluid does not have to be added.

The filter should be changed at about 60k mile intervals.
