Ignition, key will not turn past stage 1

I have a 325I BMW 1989.213,000kms

It was perfect then I tried to start the key would turn to stage one that works radio, wipers, blinkers, however it is locked and will not turn further.

I am new to this car. However could it be the key, could it be the ignition, or what about this code stuff, do I need to enter a code?

You need a engine scanner to tell you your trouble codes. Then replace the shorted sensor and clear codes after the repair is complete.

Could the wheel be torqued to the side. Try taking the pressure off the steering wheel when trying to start it.
