my car will start and do everything as it should, but it will not idol, i can push the gas pedal down it will stay on but when i am not pushing it down i will start the car and it will start for 5 seconds and shut off

The idle control valve can be adjusted. Try turning the screw out a few turns, if that does not work, it may need an idle control unit.
