When I put my keyless ignition in to start the car, lights started blinking dimly inside and out and it wouldn't release my key and my engine will not start.

The warranty in still in force, let BMW fix it. Call BMW roadside service and have it towed to the dealer on their nickel. It sounds like the CAS has the key and it will need to be replaced, not something you can do at home. Cas = Car Access System
