During a routine service a BMW dealer told me that I needed to have my tail lights rewired for $175, or they will die at some point. When I asked why, he indicated that it was a design problem from the manufacturer but not a recall. Currently everything works. Is there any truth to this, and what is the problem?
Thanks,
Bob

hello and thanks for the donation!

there is indeed a TSB (technical service bulletin) about this issue for your vehicle. it is NOT under recall so you will need to check and see if warranty will cover it if you are still under warranty. the problem is with corrosion building on the rear lamp connectors and wiring at the housing. the wiring and connectors need replaced and additional ground wiring will be added to both rear lamps to prevent further corrosion issues.
