2004 BMW 325 check engine light

I have a check engine light in my 2004 325ci BMW. i had a dealer tell me that it was my air mass flow sensor, and what i need to know is can the MAF cause a lound fan type sound that i hear when the transmisson is going through its gears? the car goes through each gear and you hear this loud fan tpye sound and it seems like my car lost power or something. can i please get some help here thanks?

So, did the check engine light and the "fan type noise" occur at the same time and did you point this out to the "experts" at the dealer?
