Computer problem
2002 BMW 325 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 160000 miles

My manual says I should get an audible sound, increasing in frequency, when I am backing up and approaching a barrier, but mine does not sound. I suspect the previous owner had the alarm AUDIO portion turned off, would this be related?
Thanks

Related to what? It either has park distance control or it does not.

Let me clarify - The local dealer tells me the audible portion of the alarm system has been turned off (and can be restored for about a $125.00 fee), therefore I wondered if that same control/feature would effect the park distance control's audio component ?

The alarm is not a standard item on the E46 body style, it has to be installed and coded to the car separately, it is not integrated into the park distance control. PDC is a distinct component. Yes it could have been turned off, it may or may not have a factory installed alarm, an easy way to tell is to look inside the roof mounted ultrasonic detector, if there is a module plugged into the wiring harness, then it has a factory installed alarm.
