1995 BMW 325 wont reverse

i recently bought the car from a friend the transmission fluid was so black it looked like soupy oil we changed the filter and put new fluid the car is pulling strong in drive but when i go to put it in reverse it doesnt catch gear all the time and when i put it in reverse i can hear something spinning inside the transmission like its trying to catch gear and when i hit the gas it just gets louder a friend told me it sounds like the linkage is off can somebody pls help me! sincerly mr.cant go back : 0

Very high possibility of internal issues with the transmission, it may need to be removed and rebuilt. Reverse going out is often an indicator of a failed clutch pack.
