A hesitation can also be caused by a leak in the throttle body boot. A leak there allows air into the engine which has not been measured by the mass air flow sensor. Consequently, the computer gives the engine the wrong amount of gas.
Throttle body boots are always suspect in BMWs because they are made of rubber and constantly flex because the engine sits on flexible mounts while the air cleaner and mass air flow sensor are bolted to the chassis. The question is not "if" it will fail, but "when". Sooner or later they all dry up and crack. At 150k, yours is probably overdue if it hasn't been changed already.
Good Luck
