1995 BMW 325 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Mechanic told us needed new fuel pump, so husband replaced it. Now there is no power to pump. He charged battery, checked fuses, checked pump with battery charger and it worked,yet the old pump also worked? What could he do?
