1993 BMW 325 ignition blocked

I came back from a 30 mile drive today, which is nothing out of the ordinary, and after I turned the car off and pulled the key out, a little white plastic trigger of some kind appeared in the ignition slot. Now I can not insert the key into the ignition to start the car. what should i do????

You may need to replace the ignition tumbler and the lock housing, I recommend seeking a BMW professional to do this job.
